2020. Emptiness or Freedom? Vacuum or infinity? Total nulling or a starting point? The end or a new beginning? This year posed questions that have not yet been answered. It taught us to be flexible and not be afraid to live by different rules. It made us take the path of transformation and made it possible to find a new, strong self. It spontaneously launched and rapidly accelerated long-term evolutionary processes.

A compelled personal transformation became both an internal and an external process. The process of searching for new meanings, self-exploration and internal dialogue became primary, the basic task and a way out of internal isolation even within the external global one.

Video project "2020" is an experiment at the intersection of genres. It attempts to understand and feel what is happening. Prima ballerina Diana Vishneva plunges into the exploration of new forms, uniting in one project a group of young professionals - choreographer Pavel Glukhov, director Katya Telegina and composer Anton Silaev. The project was started as a reflection on personal experiences associated with new reality and grew into a message to all meant for the end of this difficult year. For all participants, it became a creative laboratory and the first experience of such work. The project was initiated by the Context festival of Diana Vishneva, whose main mission is to support young Russian choreographers, artists and painters.
DIANA VISHNEVA
This project is an emotional, artistic, performative response to what happened to us during the pandemic. It was conceived as a sample, a laboratory, which eventually resulted in a video project of such scale. The circumstances of modern times dictate the need for such synthesis of arts, for the search for new creative and bold forms of self-expression. We tried to comprehend, analyze what we experienced this year, our condition during this time, all that accumulated in us when we were involuntarily locked up, how we changed. The film is permeated with metaphors, symbols and in general, I wouldn’t say it is only about my personal experiences, it is about each one of us.
KATYA TELEGINA
I got involved in the work of Diana and Pasha at the point when the choreography had already been created, and my task was to embody it and present it on video. We actively exchanged ideas, and new meanings emerged in discussions. This year’s problems inevitably made way into our conversations. We tried to feel this time, what we experienced during and after the lockdown, the tension, the uncertainty of the present and the future. These themes just vibrated in the air, and at the venue they were accumulated. In the process of work, I began to develop the theme of transformation - how the space would be transformed by the dance, and the dance would be changed by the space. The longer we worked on the project, the clearer it became that this interesting and strange year had penetrated the project and our video piece turned out to be about it.
PAVEL GLUKHOV
Choreography is based on the transformation of one image into another. In the first image, I wanted to get closer to the more human, precise, microscopic look of the heroine Diana towards herself and her body. Choreography-wise the image has no answer, no parallel, no completeness. Because for me a complete metamorphosis has not happened yet, we are just beginning to change. Yes, Diana's heroine changed both on the outside and obviously the inside - she has different awareness, a different take on reality. But physically he did not find a movement that would express this. Therefore I feel there is an ellipsis in the finale.
